Matthew 20:1-7 (ESV) “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace …Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them…‘You go into the vineyard too.’
The first lesson to be learned from the parable of labourers in the vineyard is that God rewards availability- not only ability.
The labourers who were hired at the wee-hours must have done more work, so to speak. However, when pay time came, they were all rewarded equally – regardless of when they joined the workforce.
Matthew 20:8 (ESV) When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’
This shows that to God, faithfulness or commitment to a cause is as good as ability or performance!
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2 (KJV)
Therefore, each time you wish to accomplish something in life and are hindered by circumstances; each time you want to render good service in any capacity and aren’t given the opportunity – and the wait seems endless; do not be discouraged to quit. Please stay available.
…to God, faithfulness or commitment to a cause is as good as ability or performance!
For surely, an opportunity will be given you shortly if you stay on. Better still, when payday comes, you will be rewarded for waiting!
Next: You Will Be Paid In Full
Prayer:
Lord, I’m so thrilled to know that I will be paid for waiting patiently and staying available if I do not quit making myself available even though my desired opportunities seem late in coming.
Please help me to remain available, fit and ready for Your use. Above all, on that day when my much desired change comes knocking, may I still be found waiting. Amen!
